Gold and Blue Violet: Munsell's Complementary Color Scheme Project

I'm currently taking a color class for my interior design major.  Believe it or not, this class is one of my most stressful classes.  The material is not particularly difficult, but I was apt to go a little beyond the requirement, meaning, slowly harvesting a slight obsession to place all the pieces in a perfect order. (which mandated extra time, effort, and ...a whole lot of frustration)

This living room utilizes colors from the Munsell complementary color scheme. Soft, warm, yellow dominates in the room, while warm grays and blue-violets act as accents and contrasts. Light tints of yellow contribute to the idea of openness and expansiveness in the interior. The finishes chosen for this room consist of mainly tints and neutralized brown in floral patterns that gives the interior a feminine touch.

CEILING AND WALLS

Soft, yellow floral wallpaper decorates the walls. High value white ceiling adds space and elegance to this interior.

WINDOW TREATMENTS

Various tints and shades of yellow textiles are used for window curtains. Again, floral-themed textiles in neutrals and yellow tie in with the room’s overall floral theme.

FURNITURE AND ACCENTS

A dark floral pattern textile is used for the chairs. It adds drama and interest to the brightly lit room. High value white can be seen on the floral sofa textile. Various accents in blue-violet, blue-gray, and gold dramatize and decorate the furniture.

TRIMMINGS

Trimmings are done in a warm bluish gray to contrast the bright yellow. The baseboard has a strip of blue trim above the white to give contrast. The white portion of the baseboard contrasts the dark wood flooring.

FLOORING

Warm brown wooden flooring contrasts the room’s light colors. A floral yellow rug, matching the wallpaper, is placed in the center of the living room to brighten up the flooring.
